Katra: The natural cave of Mata Vaishno Devi temple located on the Trikuta hills in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir was opened for devotees on Tuesday for the Makar Sankranti festival. Officials said that after special worship, the doors of the old cave were opened for the devotees. He said that Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer of ‘Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’ also participated in this worship.
When and for how long is the cave open?
The natural cave located inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is usually opened in the winter months, when the crowd of devotees is less. Many devotees eagerly wait for that day to visit the temple through the natural cave. This cave remains closed most of the year due to security reasons.
Let us tell you that very few people get the privilege of visiting the court of Mata through the ancient cave. The door of this ancient cave is opened only when there are less than 10 thousand devotees. Usually this happens in the months of December and January and February. Sometimes the cave remains open even before Holi in the month of March.
Permission to visit will be given based on the crowd of devotees
Garg said, “Based on the crowd of devotees, the natural cave has been opened for them from today. We will allow pilgrims to visit the old cave only when their number is less than 10,000 so that they do not face any inconvenience.” He said that pilgrims are moving smoothly from the new cave, as there is space for a large number of pilgrims and they do not face any difficulty.
So many devotees have visited in the new year so far
Officials said that since the beginning of the new year, more than 1.50 lakh devotees have visited Vaishno Devi. Last year 94.83 lakh pilgrims visited this holy shrine, which is the second largest number of devotees in a decade. (With Bhasha inputs)
