Group ‘B’ Posts: These posts are not open for direct recruitment. Group ‘B’ positions are linked to Section Officers’ Grade, which are upgraded roles for Group ‘C’ railway employees on a deputation basis.
Group ‘C’ Posts: This category includes both technical and non-technical positions, such as Clerk, Station Master, Ticket Collector, Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, and various engineering roles (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Signal & Telecommunication), among others.

Selection Process for Railway Recruitment:
- Written Examination: There is no interview (Viva Voce) for major Railway job vacancies.
- For a very few specific categories (Group A & B), there is a viva voce after the written exam.

- For positions related to operational safety, such as Assistant Station Master or Assistant Loco Pilot, there will be an aptitude test.
