The key to losing weight is limiting one’s intake of foods and beverages that one enjoys. If you live in Malaysia, like me, this is much more difficult than in other southeast Asian nations because the majority of our foods and beverages are extremely high in calories and fat.
Without dieting? Sure. But make sure you follow these steps…
- Â Instead of eating meat, choose calorie-dense foods like fruits and vegetables. These foods are high in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. Try these for every meal and snack, including lunch and dinner.
- Steer clear of items like potato chips, french fries, and doughnuts. You won’t lose weight by eating these foods.
- Steer clear of sugary, fizzy beverages. Replace it with hot lemon water or green tea instead.
- Avoid skipping breakfast. Usually, skipping breakfast causes you to overeat at lunch and dinner and leaves you feeling exhausted throughout the day. For breakfast, try a whole-grain cereal mix with some fruits.
- Don’t have a late-night snack after supper; set aside a specific time to avoid going to the kitchen to get snacks. Brushing your teeth before bed will make you less likely to reach for a bite afterward.
- Steer clear of refined grains like cakes, cookies, and bread. Substitute whole-grain foods such as brown rice and whole-wheat bread.
- Steer clear of restaurants because their average meals have at least 1,200 calories and contain added sugar, salt, and MSG.
- Consume two liters or more of water each day. To ensure you don’t forget to drink, get yourself a one or two-liter bottle of water.
- Remember to work out so that you can increase your metabolism and burn more fat and calories off your body. Try walking for a starter, you will burn at least 300–500 calories per hour.
